When I have led civil rights trips to the south for families and teens, the ultimate memorable experience participants have had is attending Sunday morning services at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta—the pastoral home of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The energy, vibrancy, and joy that emanates from their services are enough to uplift every congregant and visitor who attends. Their hugs, flowers and smiles have a way of making you feel like family, not just a participant. It might be hard during these times to see this country as a family, but now more than ever that is exactly what we should all strive to be. How do we ensure that acts of kindness, support, chesed, and care are performed for our neighbors, colleagues, and friends who are emotionally and physically struggling right now?
This Sunday we have the opportunity to participate in a live feed of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church service. I invite all of you to join me and Rabbi Cooper as we attend their live feed services, giving love and support to our neighborhood family. Details will be sent later on in the week.
