"Summertime and the livin' is easy" and if it's not, let's make it that way. Summer is approaching! Two weeks away, June 20th, is almost upon us. Beaches, sunsets, popsicles and lawn chairs. Your favorite movies, star gazing, and family vacations. We know for many of you it may look a little different as camps have closed and trips have been postponed or it may be hard to socially or physically distance at the beach, though we hope that doesn't discourage your creativity. Plan a trip, even within an hour of your home, make your own Yom Sport with your neighbors or find the darkest city close by to go star gazing. We as a TBH♥BE community are already working on wonderful opportunities through our ECC, RS and Young Adult programming that we encourage you to look at. As we would like to help make your summer feel easy, if you have any suggestions, ideas or projects you would like us to create or help you with please let us know starting with some ideas below.

There is a Correlation Between Chess and a Symphony
From our Hazzan: "Through my hobby of chess composition I have met a lot of very interested and incredibly talented individuals; talented in chess composition of course, as well as in their particular fields of interest and work. Wieland Bruch, is an orchestral keyboardist who works in Germany. (Think of all the pieces that involve piano: Shostakovich symphonies, Saint-Saens Organ Symphony, etc.). Wieland has shared many pieces of music with me over YouTube. He has a strong predilection for conductor Sergiu Celidibache. After listening to several of his interpretations, several times, I now understand why he likes him. Celidibache conducts many works, much slower than average. But they work, and here is why. The ending of the Bruckner 8th Symphony is considered problematic, by many music critics. When taken at the composer's tempo, the coda ends, and ends abruptly.
Please listen to the below link as supplied by Hallie, starting at the coda's beginning 1:36;13. Because this is a cyclic symphony, the coda combines the main themes of the three previous movements. But the music is allowed to breathe at the very end due to the slower than usual tempo. More importantly, the conductor builds a beautiful arc over the length of the coda, something great conductors need to do over the entire length of the piece, which Celidibache surely does. The tympanist, Peter Sadlo by the way is brilliant in his task." | listen here
