From Our Commuity
It is all about connection! Once Covid-19 started we held Oreo minyan, one of our regular Saturday morning services for children in our community, on Fridays at 4:00 pm. It was important for families to continue the Shabbat experience they were receiving at shul while all of our children had to remain at home. Hallie and TBH-BE made it happen! During our minyan we talk about our week or anything else that the children would like to (many stories of lost teeth). We sing Hebrew and Shabbat songs, dance, read Hebrew stories, play games and we PRAY. Our children have mastered reciting: Modeh ani, Ma tovu, Yotzer Or, Hallelujah, Odu la-hashem, Shema, V'ahavta, first part of Amida, Oseh Shalom, Aleinu and Adon Olam, as well as the blessings over the challah, grape juice, and cookies. In honor of the name, at the end of our service/minyan the children received Oreo cookies. Now that we are all virtual, I have been delivering the Oreo cookies to the families that continued to participate and I know they are happy to find a surprise at their door when they show up to our next zoom service with them in hand. This experience has helped them feel the connection to our synagogue and our caring community and I encourage other children to participate. We hope to one day soon connect again in person but for now Oreo cookies over zoom are just as delicious.
Yehudit Rubin, Oreo Minyan Service Leader.
