Before the pandemic, my husband and I would have Shabbat dinner with three other couples every few months, each time at someone else's home. In April, after Pesach, we created a virtual Shabbat dinner together. While that was fun, I realized it seemed a little odd to be eating different foods, even virtually mixing meat and dairy. One Friday evening I arranged the Shabbat dinner in which each household made one item (main course, veggie, rice and dessert) in four portions.
Each family kept one and I picked up and distributed the other portions. Since we live nearby, the driving around took only about 35 minutes in total. It surely made dinner more fun!
In these times it is important to open ourselves to new and different types of interactions.
