Chag Sameach,

While Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have passed, the holidays are continuing. You won't want to miss Simchat Torah (details below). I encourage you to read the This Week email that comes out every Tuesday to read about all of the Sukkot and other events that are going on at the synagogue.

Rabbi Cooper has been speaking and writing about the power of small acts of kindness. In his email to the community, he challenged our community to volunteer to help others with shopping, by making phone calls to check on them, and with driving and helping with other errands. As always, our community has stepped up and we have a cadre of volunteers. If you can use support from our community in some way, please let me know and we will try to match you up with a volunteer.

A few other announcements:

  • There are a few spaces left in our Sukkah Village. You can reserve a synagogue sukkot for a meal.
  • We will be holding Shemini Atzeret/Shabbat services at the synagogue on Saturday morning where Yizkor will be recited. We have space for 30 people if you would like to attend. Email me to RSVP.
  • Saturday night is our Outdoor Simchat Torah celebration in the Parking Lot. The Torahs will be out (although will not be passed around). Rak-Dan will be on hand to lead us in socially distance line dancing. Evening services will be conducted. It will be a great celebration for the entire family. The event will be broadcast via zoom and streamed on the synagogue website. RSVPs are required.
  • You are able to return your High Holiday Mahzorim to the synagogue. ECC families can do so at drop off in the morning. Other congregants can do so between 9:00am - 2:30pm or 3:30pm - 6:00pm. Please email me to let me know that you have returned yours.

It is easy to feel a letdown after the holidays, especially with all of the news in our world right now. Let's let these small acts of kindness lead the way. Besides letting me know that you might be available to volunteer, I encourage you to look at the mitzvah bingo card and to find a simple way to do something nice for someone else.

Brad Aronson's book HumanKind: Changing the World One Small Act at a Time is a great source of inspiration (he will be speaking to our community in January). While I recommend buying the actual book which can be ordered from the Narberth Bookshop, the kindle version is available on Amazon for only 99 cents right now. I guarantee you won't be sorry bringing a little light in the world

Wishing you a great week. If we can be of help to you, please let us know!
