Today was a beautiful, lazy day.- and exactly what I needed. With a full programming schedule and holidays coming up, I know it is important for me and I will make the assumption all of us - to recognize that we can't do everything. So, I spent the day reading, taking a nap, getting take out, and watching tv. Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El maintains a fairly full programming calendar with, what I believe to be, some incredible opportunities. And sometimes, we push those opportunities a lot (for a list of some of the great opportunities that I am recommending this week, please see below :) But our top priority right now is to support the members of our community. Sometimes that means creating opportunities and sometimes that means taking a step back.
If there is a way that we can better support you and your family during this time, please let us know.
All of that being said, we have some great opportunities for you to take advantage of if you would like. But first - thank you to everyone that participated in Friendsgiving and Shabbat 100 over the past two weeks. A special thank you to everyone that baked and delivered challot for this past Shabbat. As I have frequently said, the volunteer spirit is one of the things that truly makes our community special.
Looking ahead: we will have candle lighting outside each night of Hanukkah. We are asking for RSVPs because we will be ensuring social distancing. We are asking everyone to wear a mask. Our Festival of Lights Scavenger Hunt will be giving our families some fun activities to do through the holiday. Click here to learn more about how to participate.
This weekend, we will welcome Rabbinic Intern Noam Kornsgold to our community. He will help with leading the Candle Lighting on Friday and Saturday, lead service on Shabbat morning and help with our family havdalah on Saturday night.
Our Community Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, December 16th. This year, we have a few new wrinkles. You can record your talent in advance and email it to me (not everything works best live on zoom). We are happy to work with people that might need help filming. So help bring some light to our community this Hanukkah and share your talent!
And a reminder that we have an author speaking on January 10, Brad Aronson, author of Human Kind. Having read this book, it makes a great gift (available at the Narberth Bookshop), and he will be a great speaker. It is such a relevant book right now.
Wishing all in our community who are sick a refuah shelema, complete healing.
All the best for a week that you take the time you need to take care of yourself,
Ken
