Sunday Check-In - So much to include, snow days, videos and more!

Good morning,

An early Sunday morning check-in to remind you of our Study Torah with Friends led by our own Mike Elkins at 11am today.  Join here.

I am also very pleased to share that Hallie Chandler, our Director of Community Engagement, and Danny Sternberg had a beautiful baby boy just before the start of Hanukkah.

I'll be honest, my head is kind of spinning right now with so many disparate things that I want to share. This email will be a collection of smaller items, rather than one big theme.

We want to make sure that everyone stays safe in snow storms. If you would like help in getting your driveway shoveled or if you (or your kids) are able to offer help in shoveling someone's driveway, please fill out this form here. We know that even more than in normal years, there are some people that will not want to be outside or worried about slippery driveways and will do our best to match people up.

I have been continuously impressed with some of the creative offerings coming out to connect people virtually. It energizes me as we are thinking about our winter and spring. Two great items for Hanukkah:

  • National Museum for American Jewish History's Gala and Live Stream from last night inducting Harry Houdini and David Copperfield into the Only In America Gallery/Hall of Fame was a treat. Watch it here.
  • Dayveed Diggs (Lafayette/Jefferson from the musical Hamilton) just released a new Hanukkah Song: Puppy for Hanukkah.  It is a beautiful moment of levity in our world. Watch it here.

We hope that our talent show this coming Wednesday also serves as an opportunity to bring some joy and laughter. There is still time to submit a video of you singing, dancing, telling a few jokes or sharing another talent.  Make it a family activity!

There is still time to join us for socially distanced, outdoors Hanukkah candle lighting and to do the Festival of Lights Scavenger Hunt. The limited opportunities for our community to come together, such as yesterday's Shabbat with youth Torah reading, have continued to inspire and foster connections. As a parent, seeing 8 of our 8th graders (including my daughter) helping with services was really special. In our new normal, 25 people spread throughout the sanctuary and Cherry Auditorium feels like a full house.

Did you know that we have a mobile app with access to our directory and a full calendar of events on it? You need to login with your TBH-BE website email and password (email me if you need to create a new password).  There seems to be technical difficulty with the google play store which I expect will be fixed by tomorrow. The apple app store is working.

Wishing you a Happy Hanukkah and a great week! If there is any support we can give you with the upcoming weather, please let us know. (Strange writing that when it is currently in the high 50s)
