An early Chag Sameach to you. In my world, I have always viewed Sukkot as the reward for making it through the High Holidays. Our teachers and staff get a moment of respite after the start of the year (not our clergy however). I have said before, Sukkot is the Jewish holiday that seems best suited for COVID-19, so it is also the holiday that is our reward for making it to this stage of the year as well.
There is a lot going on for Sukkot that I hope you will join us at. There is the Wynnewood BBQ (Tuesday - I accidentally wrote the wrong date last week). We are adding in-person outdoor services each weekday evening during Sukkot, in addition to Festival Services on Tuesday and Wednesday morning of each of the next two weeks. Many have commented to me on how beautiful the outdoor Neilah service was (the rain holding off until right after the shofar blowing definitely added something special) - our daily minyan gives us the opportunity to experience a glimpse of this each day. And it helps us ensure that people can say all of the prayers. If you are able to join us, please do - and take the family. We will be in the Chapel and on the Chapel Patio - allowing us to zoom the service and be safe enjoying the outdoors. So sign up to have a meal in our Sukkah Village and then join us for minyan under the lights.
My normal protocol is to try to highlight events and to check in on how you are doing during these strange times. I would be remiss though, if I didn't also ask you for your help (and thank those that have already given it). On Kol Nidre, Barb Bookman, synagogue President, gave her annual Matanah High Holiday Appeal asking for your support of the synagogue. You can watch the video here. Each year, our synagogue allocates more funds to dues adjustments, Religious School scholarships, and in general tries to make our events as low cost as possible. Your contribution to the Matanah Campaign directly enables us to do this. Thank you to everyone that has already contributed and that has joined this year as Patrons. Your philanthropic commitment enables the synagogue to best serve our community.
I am sending this email out later on tonight, because I wanted to share a few photos of the Cub Scouts kick off event and Sukkah Village Build tonight. Such a great event and a great way to celebrate while still being cautious in the time of Covid.
I also want to remind you that Simchat Torah is around the corner. Don't forget to rsvp to our outdoor Simchat Torah bbq and event! Simchat Torah this year is serving as our official welcome back and New Member event.
Wishing you a great week and a time to relax as well,
Ken
