Good evening! Such a beautiful day today outside that this is a late email (beautiful day obviously does not describe either the Jets or Eagles performances). The past week with both a funeral and a Bar Mitzvah has reminded me once again of the potential power of the relationships we form through the synagogue to sustain and support us.
Our food programs are central to our community's identity and over the past week, all four of our core food programs have occurred: Response to Hunger (providing food for those in need) Cook for a Friend (providing food and a visit to the elderly in our community) Soup for the Soul (making soup so that we can deliver to those that are ill) and our new Challah Bake initiative. , it was really felt good to have them back in action. This was the first time that Cook for the Friend and Soup for the Soul met since the pandemic began.
Want to get involved with one of our food programs? Email Hallie Chandler or myself and we will connect you.
Rabbi Cooper spoke about Hosts for Hospitals on Shabbat. This is an incredible initiative. If you have space in your house or are traveling, you can make a real difference in the life of a family going through a hard time.
A reminder that election day is coming up. There are important elections that are taking place - judicial, school board, commissioner and borough counselor. Our synagogue does not have an opinion on who you should vote for, but we have a strong opinion on the importance of voting. Montgomery County has a website with information on the elections.
Strangely, I write less and less about covid-19 in these emails, but we want to encourage all who are eligible to get your vaccine booster. We will continue to do kiddush outside as long as the weather allows us and are adding in heater to enable us to do so. While we are opening up, we continue to try to operate as safely as possible.
Wishing you a great week ahead!
