I had the pleasure of traveling this weekend for a friend's daughter's Bat Mitzvah. It was a lovely weekend filled with friendship, community, food and tradition. I was reminded of three things:
Each synagogue is handling covid very differently. It is beautiful to be able to turn your cell phone off for an extended period of time on Shabbat. The personality of the Rabbi changes the feel of the service.Linked is the most...Read more...

Boker Tov!
Maybe we are catching some of you on your morning walk, others might be distracting themselves from zoom Shacharit or some may be dropping your kids off at school!
Love the smell of homemade challah but don't have the time, energy, and/or resources to bake challah today? We can help. Last Sunday volunteers filled our synagogue freezers with Challot for our new Bake and Take initiative. Thank you to all...Read more...

Good evening! Such a beautiful day today outside that this is a late email (beautiful day obviously does not describe either the Jets or Eagles performances). The past week with both a funeral and a Bar Mitzvah has reminded me once again of the potential power of the relationships we form through the synagogue to sustain and support us.
Our food programs are central to our community's identity and over the past week, all four of...Read more...

Friends,
I have what can be an annoying tendency - I almost always look for the positive in any situation (trust me, it can be an annoying quality when someone just wants to kvetch and you are pointing out the bright side).* But in my position, the focusing on the positive and the act of hakarat hatov/recognizing the good has so many benefits.
Over the past year, I have been reminded of a line from the movie Clerks...Read more...

The end of the High Holidays is always a strange time around the synagogue - part let down from the holidays coming to an end, part need for a recharge and part anticipation for the return to standard time and our regular programming. Today's beautiful weather was definitely appreciated, but we are not done yet! Tomorrow morning, you can join us in person and online for Hoshana Rabba in the morning, Tuesday will be Shemini Atzeret and...Read more...

Afternoon Everyone,
Thanks to Joan Trachtenberg, I was reminded that, a year ago our congregant David Forested came home from the hospital after a very extended stay due to Covid-19. 50+/-congregants stood socially distanced in our parking lot to welcome him home, signs and balloons in hand. It's moments like these that remind us of the importance of community.
Join our community this weekend for the...Read more...

An early Chag Sameach to you. In my world, I have always viewed Sukkot as the reward for making it through the High Holidays. Our teachers and staff get a moment of respite after the start of the year (not our clergy however). I have said before, Sukkot is the Jewish holiday that seems best suited for COVID-19, so it is also the holiday that is our reward for making it to this stage of the year as well.
There is a lot going...Read more...
